I'm seeing a very similar issue as well (in fact as far back as Windows 8 CP, I believe). In my case it's a USB 3.0 external drive plugged via cable to a Lenovo W520. The host controller is reported as "Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096 (Microsoft)" - I wonder if there's a similar driver update for this as well? Would love to once again have the ability to distribute my disk I/O for Hyper-V to that nice fast external drive... might try the suggested Storage Space fix.
Mass Storage Controller Driver E6420 43
The Latitude XP was introduced as the first laptop with an optional Lithium-ion battery.[124] For XPi and earlier models, the BIOS limited storage to an 8.4gb or smaller hard drive. The XPi CD was the last mass-market laptop with an optical trackball. In 1996, the XP line was updated with higher resolution screens and updated Pentium processors. A base model for business use known as LM was introduced, while the high-end models were renamed XPi.[125] In 1997, the range would be upgraded to include Intel's MMX.[126] 2ff7e9595c
