HP iLO Default Credentials: User Name, Password, and Serial Number Explained

I have NO PHYSICAL ACCESS to the server. Its in another state. My boss is out of town and unavailable. I have a server that went down. I can ping both its address and its ilo address. But I can't RDP it. I can get to the iLO login screen, but I don't have any username or password. Is there a default?

I've tried the password which is iLO 2 according to the tag, and I've tried it with sw off (default) and on, and both times on the XP machine I have installed the integrated remote console on - it keeps saying "Login Failed: Please verify your login creds. When using the program do I just put in the server IP and leave both the username and password fields blank when I have sw 1 on?

Depending on the ProLiant model, the default administator password is on a sticker affixed to the server. a cardboard toetag tied to the server, or a plastic toetag that slides out of a slot on the front of the server.

If the default Administrator password is not working, more than likely it was changed. During POST you can access iLO by pressing F8 when prompted and go into user settings and reset the administrator password. If POST security is enabled, you can open the server and set SW1 to the ON position to disabel iLO security. With iLO security disabled you can then access the settings during POST, or via the web GUI and reset the password. Once changed, set SW1 back to the OFF position.

I have never seen the default iLO2 password labeled as ILO 2 on the server tag. From my experience with the G5 series, the iLO2 username is always "Administrator" and the password is always set to a random 8 digit alphanumeric string (and the default DNS name for the iLO2 device is always "ILO" followed by the serial number for the server) which is documented on a cardboard tag attached to the server.

Many users are not aware that a recent change has been made to the default password setting of new Nutanix nodes. Specifically, the default password for the IPMI interface is now the serial number of the node itself (using capital letters). Please note that the node serial number is different from the block serial number. You can find more information regarding this change as per the Common BMC and IPMI Utilities and Examples Knowledge Base article.

The configuration file contains the default settings for the tool. You can use a text editor to change the behavior of the tool such as adding a server IP address, username, and password. The settings that you add or update in the configuration file are automatically loaded each time you start the tool.

This command simultaneously logs in to the server at the provided URL (--url) with the provided username (-u) and password (-p), sets the bios back to default settings, then reboots (--reboot) the server to apply the changes. Using the reboot option automatically logs-out of the server.

The default IP address for initial access to the LOM port is 192.168.1.3. Change the default credentials and IP address the first time you log on. All LOM GUI operations require you to connect to the appliance by typing the LOM IP address in a web browser and then entering the administrator credentials. Alternatively, you can access LOM functionality through the command line by using the ipmitool utility. Using the ipmitool utility remotely, you can determine the LOM firmware version number, perform warm and cold restarts, configure LOM network settings, monitor the health of the appliance, and perform power control operations. The utility is available for download at The ipmitool utility is also included in Citrix ADC MPX and CloudBridge/SDX (dom0) appliances for initial LOM port network configuration. When using the shell, you can choose to use DHCP or static IP settings for initial network configuration. After configuring the network settings, you can use the ipmitool commands over the network. For example, the BMC firmware revision command would need the same user name, password, and IP address that is used to access the BMC/LOM GUI port.

In a web browser, type and enter the default user credentials. In Password, if the earlier default password does not work, try typing the serial number of the appliance. The serial number bar code is available at the back of the appliance.

A number of C-Series servers have shipped to customers with a non-standard default password which prevents access to the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) unless the configured password is provided.

Customers might not be able to log in to their C-Series servers with the published default admin password "password" since this has been changed to "Cisco1234" for these systems. Customers should access the CIMC interface with this combination "admin":"Cisco1234" and set the password back to the default or a customer desired password.
