May I ask, why aren't you using that software, seems to me that it would be of more use than MFI. More All Messages By This Member

For larger more intricate programs up to the maximum 210 lines of code I use the RS232 facility to transfer from computer to lathe.I believe that CAD/CAM is an excellent way to produce parts but to gain the full benefit from such a method it is necessary to refit the machine with modern steppers and controllers, or at least follow the guide written by Peter Kaiser using IC's to control the existing stepper controllers and motors, needs Linux or Mach to operate the system.Perhaps you will pass on your experiences using the software, i'm sure it will be of interest.Marcus More All Messages By This Member

Thanks for the info. More All Messages By This Member

It will be dedicated to running the Emco program if I get it working. I guess we'll see in a few weeks. I'm not a computer nerd by any means and never fiddled around with so old software or computer hardware but I'm hoping the best. More All Messages By This Member

I would not trust tool offsets without checking.Mfi says it will import file from 5cnc.I use a win xp notebook pc (advent 4213 10.2 inch) with a usb to rs232 converter running MFI to load programs to c5.John More All Messages By This Member

The "demo version" text that some users reported didn't show up on the top of the screen. When I quit the program and type win+enter, win98 will boot up and I have USB support for the possible need of file transfer. The program will need a bit getting used to as it doesn't use mouse and is quite a bit different than the modern cad programs. You can make new tools to the library and edit old ones with the "editool" program if I understood correctly. I think this is the most powerful tool available for this machine if it doesn't work with linuxcnc straight as it's possible with the 5pc. More All Messages By This Member

The feeling when it just works the first time is amazing, especially when I needed to try 3 times to get the cable right and this is my very first cnc machine experience. (I am all comfy with manual ofc) I have to say, this really is the best software available for the Emco as you can just draw shit and it throws out your code, a lot less involved and even at first much quicker process than inserting every line of code by hand. I am probably going to try cutting some steel next week, let's see. More All Messages By This Member

It can be opened without either of those but some things wouldn't work and it will say "demo version" in the top of the screen. I found also that the menu only works when accessed through the m.bat batch file, not by typing menu and enter. From the menu you can choose the tools editor or programming program. It's almost mind blowing that a software that is about the same file size as a photo taken by a phone camera has so many features and needs a manual of 50+ pages to cover everything. Problem is it only understood the points and drew straight lines where I put arcs in CAD. Fortunately the Emco CAD isn't too difficult to use and I will be sticking to that and so should everyone else The hotkeys really do make it easy. Also changed my computer setup to a Compaq Contura Aero 4/33 that is a 486 based minilaptop from early 1990's that has serial port and it worked just fine and will eliminate the messy cable hell compared to desktop. And I can carry it home easily and do the programming outside the garage which is quite nice. The thing is actually half smaller and lighter than my 2019 Asus. One thing remains a mystery to me, should I be able to jog the CNC version from the laptop arrow buttons and run the program from the laptop like on 5pc? And if it is possible, how should I configure the lathe? More All Messages By This Member

Could it be that this is needed for everything to work correctly or is the need for one bypassed somehow because it seems to mostly work fine or that the version here which is older didn't have that? Only the output must be changed, because the industrial machines use 3 decimal places instead 2 of Emco. Thats only with metric input, I don't know how many are with inch input. So you should can use any cad/cam system, because all of these systems have a fanuc Postprozessor. The only problem is, the system must use G2 and G3, normally they make thousands of short linear paths. But the small Memory of the C5 can't use that. More All Messages By This Member
