Despite its terrible drivers and ecosystem and all its other problems, we couldn't resist, we were just so curious about how Dolphin would perform on the 8cx! And so, with the nudge of a former Dolphin dev who was playing with the Pro X, stenzek decided to look into supporting Windows 10 on ARM.


As a proof of concept, Stenzek used his Playstation 1 emulator, Duckstation to test a frame pacing solution that involved padding 30 FPS games. Because it had a simpler rendering pipeline, he was able to more quickly test and verify that padding improved fidelity. Once it was confirmed to work, he brought the feature over to Dolphin and had it tested by users suffering from poor framepacing. The results carried over nicely and were verified by Dolphin's own frametime output.


Improving Dolphin as a Wii emulator has been a very long road with many hiccups and milestones. At this point, a lot of the biggest flaws and hacks that Dolphin once relied on for handling the Wii NAND are finally gone. Replacing them is tested and verified behaviors in this batch of changes from Leoetlino. The biggest benefit of rewriting, reimplementing, and unit-testing all of these functions is that Dolphin should be far less likely to do something that would corrupt your NAND or Virtual SD card while allowing games that rely on more exact emulation to work correctly.


Each PS2 game PS4 package file (.pkg) includes the emulator itself, there is no included emulator in the PS4 firmware. although The PS4 firmware has some PS2 emulator specific features, like the functions sceLncUtilIsPs2Emu, sceShellCoreUtilGetImposeMenuFlagForPs2Emu, sceSystemServiceAddLocalProcessForPs2Emu, or sceSystemServiceShowImposeMenuForPs2Emu.


Emulators are programmed to be accurate for the games that they were extracted from, and that alone provides a challenge for accurate emulation. since emulators include per title patches, and different default settings, and since the Playstation 2 hardware is known to be one of the most complex systems to emulate, any small change in configuration can have negative consequences in games.


Also note that the BIOS itself is included in the game's pkg and it is the exact same BIOS that was used in the ps2_netemu. Another important thing is the lack of encryption mechanism for PS2 game disc image file, this time it is just a plain ISO file, but the emulator still supports LIMG sector that allows the usage of non-2048 sector size discs. In a dramatic return to the project after a long hiatus, Billiard returned to the project with the goal of cleaning up emulated Wii Remotes and implementing emulated MotionPlus correctly once and for all. These efforts have greatly improved Dolphin's ability to create motions that games can recognize without the need for real Wii Remotes. The key behind these improvements was thinking about motions differently, by treating an emulated Wii Remote as a virtual object acting out these motions, Dolphin now handles a lot of the extraneous motions that swinging, tilting, and pointing a Wii Remote does that aren't immediately obvious. Mix that with reverse engineering efforts and cracking the MotionPlus's extra encryption and you can finally configure and play your favorite MotionPlus games with ease.


The idea of the Rabin cryptosystem is that you can generate a secure connection with just a public key. We promise not everything this month will be about Android, but considering there are so many missing features, there's still quite a few things being added. Possibly the most notable issue that every single user playing on their phone has noticed is that there was no rumble support unless you were taking advantage of native GameCube controller adapter support. Even though there were no complaints about this, we assumed that their subconscious frustration must have been causing many of the negative reviews and responses regarding the emulator.


Because old XFB copies are invalidated, it really doesn't make sense that it can pull such an old XFB copy. This behavior was interesting enough that, after having dealt with Hybrid XFB issues in Twin Snakes, AdmiralCurtiss decided to look into this baffling edgecase, and managed to crack the code.


Other fixes have been done to make Portrait Mode more usable as well, including make it so your controls don't drift off-screen when rotating between Portrait and Landscape view. Regardless of that, we do recommend users do not flip between modes as it does put extra strain on both Dolphin and drivers. If something goes wrong, it can cause graphical corruption or even crash the emulator outright.


As a general user emulator, performance matters for Dolphin. While we try to be as accurate as possible when we can, maintaining a smooth framerate is incredibly important for a good user experience. Over the years, many performance regressions have snuck into Dolphin, some intended while many others were unintended. While we have testers looking out for things, it isn't reasonable for us to catch everything before a feature gets merged.


Plenty of modern-day Mac users started out on old PCs. However, running old PC software on modern Macs requires DOSBox, a capable but sometimes fiddly and obtuse emulator (in part due to DOS itself being fiddly and obtuse). A far better bet is Boxer, a version of DOSBox designed specifically for Macs and ease of use.
